A friend of ours took us to Old Towne Bar and Grill for supper a couple of weeks ago on a Friday night, and we are so glad she did. We seated ourselves, and the waitress was there within a few minutes, friendly and helpful. There was a large table that had walked in ahead of us, so we had a bit of a wait, but that was understandable, and the food was worth the wait. My husband and friend had the prime rib special, which looked incredible, and they both said was delicious. The serving size was large, in fact I thought it looked like a roast.
I had the fettucine alfredo with chicken, and it was so good. It was also large enough that I took some home and had 2 more meals off of it. If you are looking for good food at a good price, and you want to support local business, this is your place to go. Nice staff. Had a margarita that didn't taste so well.
Prime rib was average. Burgers too well done. Burgers sent out incorrect from our order. Fried mushrooms, onion rings and cheese curds were delicious!
It's 33 and we've got to make this special! I wanted to make a full evening of it, so the primary concern was to get fed and have something to do after that would be entertaining for all. Decided about a week prior to our outing that we would head south and eat in Delavan, and then end the evening on our way home at the Mackinaw Valley Vineyard to enjoy a beautiful mid summer evening and take in their entertainment while enjoying some wine.
My original plan was to introduce our friends to a restaurant that I personally like based on two visits albeit for breakfast and lunch only. I was intrigued. The more I read about it, the more I realized it probably fit into our plans better than my original choice. No problem. It's very easy to locate. It's within the central business district just one block south of Route While cruising through town we did get to admire the architecture and overall general charm of this small town. I do have to admit upon pulling up and parking within VERY close proximity of the restaurant, I was second guessing my choice because there is nothing outwardly other than a very solid, pleasant brick front building even remotely suggesting the quality of what we experienced.
But hold on, we've got some bumps to navigate first. You've got your bar on the right and dining area on the left as you enter. It's handicapped accessible and the tables are set up at comfortable intervals. At the time we visited we had our choice of tables.
I'm kind of finicky to an extreme about my flatware, so I checked that out immediately and felt some mild anxiety. Honestly, they could use an upgrade. The menus were presented and I was rewarded with a pretty impressive array of offerings, but that didn't matter. I had my mind set on the special But first, let's have some drinks.
I'm a wine girl. Doesn't have to be fancy. Just white, dry, and very chilled. First choice Pinot Grigio, maybe even with some ice. Ok, I'm flexible Pinot Noir do they vintage this in white? No can do. Problem was solved by a very satisfying second choice of a Moscow Mule, served in a proper copper mug thank you,Tito's supplier sans lime wedge. No problemo, had a banana and some peaches earlier today so I'm good on fruit. If you're wondering at this point, what I did like about the Old Towne, we're just now getting there.
It's the food!!. And really, isn't that why you would consider going there? My God, R you good lookin Delavan Illinois was good Probably the best prepared, most delectably seasoned cut of meat I may have ever had, and I'll cow chow with any carnivore any time, any where although I do love grouper too. Hubby had the ribeye and the bite I had of it made my eyes roll backwards.
And guess what folks, I don't think however big of appetite you bring to this table, you are definitely going to bring home leftovers. When they brought out those plates I was I think shocked is the best word. The portions are immense. They did manage to fit a very nicely prepared baked potato on it though as my side. I p most meals come with a salad bar option, which I did saunter by on my way to the ladies which was serviceable. Took a quick glance at it and it was the standard offering.
Which, again hint, hint could use an upgrade. If you need it, and it's not there, wander down the street and check out what they have at the other dining establishment in town. Also, if you do have to head north to get home Perfect way to complete your evening, imho. Thanks for reading. I enjoy reading others reviews and am a devout TripAdvisor follower, so I hope this is helpful. The hubby had the Saturday night prime rib special is well worth the trip to Delavan.
It was a huge portion, cooked to requested R you good lookin Delavan Illinois. I opted for the ribeye with sauteed mushrooms. It was very flavorful and I chose fries over the baked potato and they were crispy and good all around!
We will be back. We had the Saturday night Prime Rib special- It was very good, hearty meal. No small portions! It was a thick cut and cooked perfectly. We also had appetizers of Fried mushrooms and those also did not disappoint. Large mushrooms and you got a nice health portion. We also had the onion rings appetizer which was the onion strings were delicious and a huge mound plate full of that also. Portions were not skimpy. Was our first time there and we will definitely be going back. Own or manage this property? Claim your listing for free to respond to reviews, update your profile and much more.
